Your weekly serving of everything awesome –

a cheap way to kill time and feed your brain at the same time.

Welcome to another round of Brain Baits! It’s an avenue for you to be entertained, to indulge into some geekery, and to relax a bit. This week’s mix is eclectic — ranging from morbid to

[1] 9 things you start doing when you’re no longer fun

I can totally relate. I’ve become an introvert all the more. I was always an introvert, but there came a time when I was going out like every week. That was the time when boyfriend and I discovered each other. Haha. But, now, we’re back to being introverts.

Did you get to the end of the list? I am that person — concerned of the adult stuff. And that makes me boring. And I abhor drinking night sesh. I do give in sometimes. Like later, we’re off to a get-together dinner.

[2] Ed Sheeran Accepts Engagement Ring from a Fan

The teenage fan apparently has cancer. Awww, isn’t he the sweetest?

[3] This simple cartoon humor

The others are as witty, but I liked this the most. Haha.

[4] Finally, Philippines. This is sort of like an Obama-care for the senior Pinoys

[x]

I was always always looking for my mother’s healthcare. She’s 60+, but she looks like she’s only 45 years old. Seriously. She is lovely.

But healthcare is just expensive. Good thing senior PhilHealth coverage is now mandatory. I need to work out the health care for my 2 aunts. I haven’t researched the specifics of this law yet, like how much will be the yearly coverage, what sickness are covered and you know, the rest of the healthcare stuff.

[5] Depression as a person

This gave me chills. Agree with me here?

I’ve always been fascinated with open mic nights. Going to one is still in my bucket list.
[6] My quirky tita who made a buzz in the net.

A Filipina tourist wandered into Platia, a classy Greek restaurant in the small town of Druten in The Netherlands, over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see an etched portrait of Cherie Gil hanging on the wall.

Over dinner Noemi Katuin asked the waiter why the face of a Filipina actress appeared to be the centerpiece of Platia’s fancy interiors.

“No, that is Maria Callas, the famous opera singer,” the waiter told her.

“I then showed him the exact photo of Cherie from the internet,” Katuin shared on Facebook late Saturday.

“They were so stupefied to learn they commissioned for the wrong portrait and it’s been hanging here for 2 years! Now they want their money back from the artist who did it! Hahaha!” added Katuin, who posted a photo of herself posing beside the portrait.

Funny, eh?

[7] Tea.tanic

This is a cute tea infuser. You can browse a couple more styles here. I need one. I bought oolong tea a month ago. I had a hard time infusing it. Good thing there’s a little screen on the mouth of my water boiler.

[8] Last Plate

 [x]

I found this interesting. Last meals of people who were about to be killed because of the crimes that they have committed. Browse the other meals here.

[9] Hooray, Dad!

Just in time, right?! Funny, but it’s quite not. Good thing dads have fast reflexes.

Your weekly serving of everything awesome –

a cheap way to kill time and feed your brain at the same time.

Welcome to another round of Brain Baits! It’s an avenue for you to be entertained, to indulge into some geekery and to relax a bit. =) Just like me. It’s a Monday and yet I’m hanging out in a cafe! Haha. The Christmas Cookie Latte is too sweet for me. I should’ve stuck with the good ‘ol Java Chip.

Let’s start?

[1] Did you know that Salem witches weren’t burned at the stake?

They were actually hanged.

I know right. You feel betrayed too? Wait until you learn more things that were true back when we were kids, but aren’t now.

[2] The ring you should buy if you frequent streets at night

This seems like an ordinary ring, but you can use this against an attacker. Sad that we have to invent things like this. It’s called The Siren and it was created by Kat Alexander. Its name suits since it can give off a 110-dB alarm and can be heard up to 50-feet away.

[3] WOTE. I am in love with them. I am so so so so completely obsessed with them as of the moment.

Oh my gosh. You don’t have an idea what I am talking about?! I’m talking about Walk Off The Earth, who as per their website, “an unconventional, multi-talented five-piece musical phenomena that is currently taking the world by storm.”

They’re funny. They’re super talented. They’re eclectic. They’re hipsters (I guess.) Below are my fave WOTE covers.

I’m tired with the copy and pasting. Just check out their YouTube channel here.

[4] Cool Cases

[x]

I have a hard time looking for Samsung Note 3 cases. There are too many cute ones for iPhone. But, you can find a few for Note 3. I’d like the ones with dreamcatchers. Maybe I can order one of these from AliExpress instead.

[5] Modern love notes

I’m a fan of love letters!! Not the normal, boring, usual stuff. I prefer these types!

[6] This is the way I trap my friends in my life.

Via Grammarly.

[7] I can do aerobics, but not this Alphabet Aerobics. Hats off, Radcliffe.

Fallon’s shows are entertaining. You should stream some of them.

[8] Late Business Bloomers

 [x]

Since I’ve been studying MBA, my brain is itching for a business. I want to have an online shop or a business, butttt I am still not sure on what to do. Haha. And besides, I am earning regularly on my freelance gigs. And I want to concentrate on that. Buttt, freelancing gives active income. Oh, Lord, guide me on what to do. :) I’ll wait for that perfect timing. It’s never late to start a hobby or a passion project anyway. Thanks to this article from Entrepreneur.

[9] A Follow up to #8

To be Successful, Do Only What Matters

Since I now have an idea on what I want to be and do in the future, I am currently cleaning up my current “roles”. I need to give up some soon. <3 I shouldn’t do everything. I wish this MBA course can contribute to my freelancing career + business someday.

Brain Baits

Your weekly serving of everything awesome –

a cheap way to kill time and feed your brain at the same time.

Welcome to another round of Brain Baits! This week, I want you to treat yourself to that alone time and a few laughs. We deserve a break from the corporate world and from other life’s hard knock offs.

[1] How to say ‘no’ creatively

Shut everyone out this weekend and hibernate. Here’s one way to escape it:

I’m in a season of NO.

If this doesn’t work out, here are a few other leave-me-alone statements crafted in a courteous way.

[2] Animals caught off guard.

Can’t stop laughing, eh?

[3] Cutesy Willow whose Halloween is just not one night in October

[x]

Apparently, her mom is a photographer. Her other Halloween costumes are just as adorable as this one.

[4] This Invasive Design Jewelry Which Can Power up Your iPhone

[x]

An Israeli student named  Naomi Kizhner invented this. With the Ebola virus, my reading of the Scorth Trials and Death Cure and this news, reality and fiction seems to entangle with each other. Amusingly creepy.

[5] Different way of getting inked

[x]

I’d like to have this type of tattoos. Only if I’m not a crybaby.

[6] Raising of Tax Ceiling on Bonuses!!!

Let’s do the happy dance!

If you’re from the Philippines, you will want to spread this good news:

[7] Aurora Borealis + Solar Flares

When we went to Ilocos the last time, we were fascinated by the National Geographic episode about solar flares. Well, did you know that the Aurora Borealis are the results of solar flares escaping the surface of the sun?  Well, yes they are. Thank you to the Earth’s Magnetosphere, we’re safe from the solar flares.

The solar flare thing has been lingering in my mind because I’ve been reading the last 2 books of the MazeRunner trilogy, which I am going to do a review of here in this blog in a few days.

[8] (Almost) Terror Teachers

You’ve encountered at least one or two in your entire life. In my life, the terror teachers aren’t necessarily those chalk-throwing, shitty types. They’re the ones who challenges you — no open books during the entire class. No googling during the entire class. Deliver a report on this and that. Your research topic has been done before. Go get something new.

Actually, I like them.

They’re the ones I remember. I don’t remember the super nice ones because I tend to slack off during their classes. =P Study shows “terror teachers” contribute a lot to their students’ future successes.
